Create your own dinner set (June)

Learn how to create your very own dinnerware set complete with a dinner plate, side plate, and bowl

Our resident wheel master, Tiziana, will teach this course, covering the basics for those who wish to improve their skills and create their very own tableware set over four sessions. We’ll meet at the studio once per week for four weeks (with a pause for one week to allow time for your items to be bisque-fired).

Before booking, please read all details below regarding canceled bookings and missing classes.

Here’s what we’ll do in each course session:

  • 1st June: Preparing clay, centering, pulling, and throwing each form. We will focus on dishes and/or bowls
  • 8th June: Second session of throwing – continue working on those individual forms – focus on side and dinner plates
  • 15th June: Trimming the base of the forms to create a clean shape – if time allows – create patterns on the tableware. Students are encouraged to choose 2 pieces from each session (2 bowls, 2 side plates, 2 dinner plates)
  • Skip the 22nd June: Your pieces will be bisque-fired in the meantime
  • 29th June: Introduction to glazing techniques and glazing your pieces
  • Firing your pieces in the second kiln after glazing, to finish them
  • Pick up your pieces 2-3 weeks later. This can take longer as the plates need to be fired separately this time and may not all fit in one go in the kiln/s

You’ll also learn a whole bunch of techniques and skills:

  • Good technique for centering the clay on the wheel efficiently
  • Forming the base of your piece so you don’t run into wobbly problems when making your pieces!
  • How to throw the perfect plate, side plate, and bowl or dish
  • Trimming your piece when it’s dry enough
  • Different methods for glazing your dinnerware, depending on the desired effect
  • This workshop is perfect for beginners, too!
